That would really be nice if it has the voice
synthesizer for the 817 - I don't recall anyone
saying if it does or not.  Otherwise it could be
as useful as a doorstop.  I think the Icom 703
has one, which I have used with various pieces
of Icom equipment.  I am not vision impaired
but had to set equipment so it would be usable
in a low-no light environment, including the display.
