[QRP] Recent antenna experiment

I had an inadvertent antenna experiment yesterday,
during the ARCI Sprint: I was finding that my big
loop, although it sort of was being matched by my
ZM-2, was no match for my 88' EDZ in performance. I
was making QSOs with the EDZ, but nobody could hear me
with the loop, usually a great performer. It was
frustrating, because I was trying to work some ops
that had 599 sigs, and they were ignoring me! What
kind of guy would do THAT? <g>
Today, I realized that the loop was disconnected
outside, and I'd been loading up about thirty feet of
300 ohm twinlead, terminating in a pair of powerpoles.
Result: The open stub didn't work as well as a big
loop up 50'. I don't totally understand the theory
involved, but the empirical evidence is clear.
