QCWA Bulletin 2015-012 - Former QCWA Director William (Bill)
Pasternak, WA6ITF (SK)
It is with sadness we report the passing of QCWA # 27158 William
(Bill) Pasternak, WA6ITF, of Saugus, CA, on June 11, 2015 at the age of 73.
Pasternak was elected to the QCWA Board in 2006 and served until
2010. He was co-founder and editor of Amateur Radio Newsline (tm).
Pasternak was instrumental in acquiring a time slot for the QCWA
Fourm at Dayton Hamvention in 2009. Because of his efforts, QCWA now
has a forum at Dayton Hamvention each year.
While growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Pasternak got into amateur
radio in the summer of 1959 as WN2HVK. The articles he wrote in the
Spring 2007, Summer 2007 and Fall 2007 QCWA Journal, are a must read,
for this really does cover his life. In his first installment he
started with, "So you ask: How did this scribe get into ham radio? It
was the summer of 1959. It happened because I failed a course in
trigonometry and was making it up in summer school. I was not alone.
Everyone in our class had failed, and some were no dummies. One of my
fellow alumni went on to be a physicist."
Pasternak enjoyed working 6 meters in the early days, and built his
own transmitter for this band. Later in life he entered into the
world of broadcasting and worked at KTTV in Los Angeles, CA, where he
made a career in engineering and production.
Another one of amateur radio's great innovators will be sorely missed.
