Good Morning Tad:
At this point, if indeed it ever comes to pass, an Associate Member has not been defined as a blond-headed ham from Minnesota! ( Personally, I would prefer the title of QCWA Associate.)
Some of the questions that you posed to me were identical to those posed by members of Chapter 41. I merely advised them to consider if they would ever want to have/consider an alternate type of Membership in the QCWA, for sake of conversation, known as Associate Members. For sake of the vote, an Associate Member was defined as merely a ham with less than 25 years tenure, nothing more, nothing less.
Tad, this idea is nothing new as it seems to resurface every 3-5 years. There are good points and bad points about the concept.
As one that travels to numerous hamfests each year and has contacts with multiple Chapters, it is a widely recognized fact that many Chapters already have multiple classes of tongue-in-cheek members to include:
1. Legitimate Chapter Members that are current with both chapter and natl' Member dues.
2. Chapter Members that are not current with natl' dues.
3. Chapter Members that have never belonged to the natl' organization
4. Etc.
NOTE: Don't forget that officially in order to be eligible for chapter membership, one must first be a member of national.
Tad, when one looks at the above list, technically, the only person that should be allowed to vote on any issue is item # 1!.............But it is much more complicated than that! It is widely known that many chapters have other types of members that they consider a member of the chapter and they are called "friends of", "associate members", "visiting member", or etc. etc. Thus, one could add a # 5 to the above list which is:
5. A chapter member that is technically ineligible to be a member of a chapter or of national! This type of member is out there, they already exist!
Thus Tad, when one takes a vote, it is difficult to determine the type of member you are really getting the vote from!!
Regardless Tad, at this point, again this is merely a concept and please take a vote and submit the results of that vote to President Roske and the QCWA HotList.......TNX for your cooperation.........
Hope I have not confused you!
Hava' good Sunday

Hi Val,
During your presentation to your chapter members regarding associates, just how did you explain what an associate would be? Did you explain the benefits that an associate would have? Do you really know what an associate would be? Please tell me more about your presentation.
FYI...The issue of associates was already discussed and HQ, along with the directors and special committee members previously said NO. NO WAY. If you do not have a record of the bylaws and decisions already made regarding this topic, you can ask our President or GM to send them out again via this reflector.
