Doug,
I did receive your email a week ago. But did not have an immediate solution
for Chapter 5's problems. I could have hit reply and said I received your
email, but you knew I did because your email did not bounce back from my
server.
I had a malware virus infection that took two-days to isolate and eliminate
making me two-days late on the journal deadline.
Your chapter's issue are one of the reasons our President Bob Roske formed
the Publicity, Public Relations and Lost Member's Committee.
We are here to help you, your chapter and its membership.
In answer to your question; "How do I get a list of ...QCWA Hams...within a
30 mile radius of Philadelphia"
Submit a list of the zip codes that you would like list of the QCWA members
that live within to the General Manager.
But don't expect an over night answer. It takes time to generate a list and
it is between other required tasks that need timely completions.
I have several questions for you; that based on your answers will assist the
Publicity, Public Relations and Lost Members Committee in helping to solve
the negative issues impacting on Chapter 5.
1. Are there any QCWA members in your area willing to work with you on
reviving Chapter 5?
2. At the Ham clubs in your area that you gave talks at - were there any
QCWA members or QCWA eligible for membership in the audience?
3. Other than age why are the current and past Chapter members unwilling to
meet even for lunch? Everyone has to eat and I have yet to find a Ham
unwilling to meet with another to talk Ham Radio over a cup of coffee. It is
usually other fixable reasons they no longer want to gather with fellow
Hams.
4. Survey all the QCWA members and those eligible for membership via the
telephone - one on one. Ask them if they would consider joining or
re-joining Chapter 5. Ask them directly, What would it take for you to join
or rejoin Chapter 5. And then ask their reasons for the answers they gave
you.
5. The task is not always an easy one, but one that often needs to be taken
if you expect to reap any rewards from your labor.
6. The more folks you have working on these goals the easier it is to
accomplish them.
7. Remember, you need to take and display a positive attitude while working
the phones.
8. If you keep an up beat approach to recruiting chapter members you should
be successful. Make a list of real reasons those folks licensed 25-years
should be a member of Chapter 5.
9. Eliminate any negativism in your recruiting. Nothing kills your effect
faster than displaying your negative feeling.
And Lastly, just because you do not receive a reply to an inquiry in the
time you think you should have one, does not mean you are being ignored.
As I said earlier, our committee is willing to work with you and your
chapter, but you have to work with us also.
I would be most happy to discuss any of these suggestions or any other
aspects that you feel are impacting on Chapter 5.
I can be reached at 262-639-7327 if you prefer to discuss these on the
telephone rather than by email
73,
Larry McCalvy, WA9JMO
Chairman, QCWA Publicity, Public relations and Lost Member Committee.
