PRESIDENTAL AWARDS FOR 2004
The greatest perk that goes to your President is the making of our
Presidential Honor Awards. In your Spring Journal, there is a call for our
Chapters to nominate QCWA members for our Honor Awards for 2004. It follows
the approach that has been advocated in my columns.
On January 31, 1951, our FCC placed into our rules a statement of the five
principles establishing the type of amateur service it expects us to provide
in return for being allowed to use some highly valuable radio spectrum.
It is important that we pause periodically to reflect upon just whom it is
among us that we admire as our role models in helping to fulfill each of
these principles.
Five awards will be made on July 1, 2005, and will be announced in our Fall
QCWA JOURNAL. They are:
1. For service to the public as a voluntary noncommercial communication
service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications.
(Hurricanes)
2. For continuing and extending the amateur operator's proven ability to
contribute to the advancement of the radio art. (Experimenter)
3. For advancing skills in both the communication and technical phases of
the radio arts. (Instructors)
4. For expanding the existing reservoir within our amateur service of
trained operators, technicians and electronic experts. (Volunteer Examiners)
5. For continuing and extending the amateur operator's unique ability to
enhance international goodwill. (DXer)
For your nominee to be considered, please submit your nomination to Director
Harold Chase, W1EES, before June 1, 2005. He is the Chairman of our Chapter
Relations Standing Committee that is administering this program.
Include with the name and call sign of your nominee, the specific award for
which you are making your nomination and a statement of your reasons for
making your nomination.
Here is your opportunity to recognize a deserving QCWA member in your
Chapter for helping make amateur radio the greatest hobby in the World.
Let Harold hear from you.
