Bob Rich, WA4PWA
I was licensed as a novice in 1965
Call sign was WN4ALH
My transmitter was a DX 40, my receiver was (I think) a knight, selectivity was horrible!
My T/R switch was homebrew with a built in off the air CW monitor, (transistor components) worked perfect! My antenna was an
80 meter dipole built from copper clad open telephone wire, I still
Have that , but was upgraded to an
80/40 meter dipole with traps.
My straight key is a treasured "Western Union" Bunnel recovered
From a rail road depot in Califon, NJ. Still have that also.
When I became a general class I upgraded to an Elmac 67 Tranciter with a National NC 125 receiver, truly a gem in receivers!
Truly a fun time in my delightful Ham life,
73 de Bob, WA4PWA
Also ex WB4ALH- WA7JEU- WA6PWA - EP2RI -HI8/WA6PWA now WA4PWA.

No side-tone and no way to spot my frequency. It put out enough power to barely light up a small neon bulb which I used for tuning, but I made enough QSO's to get my code speed up and pass the General 3 months later.
