In 1961 my dad, George was WN8BMG (later WC8X) bought a Hallicrafters SX-140 receiver and built a Heathkit HX-11 transmitter and we hung a 40M dipole. Those were still the station when I passed my novice to become WN8JEI. During my term as a novice the receiver was upgraded first to a National NC-300 and then a Hammerland HQ-170. At some point a Heathkit Twoer was added and then a homebrew 2M rig using a 6360 final for about 18 watts input on 2.
