  I sense topic drift.

My 80 and 30m inverted vees fell to the ground this winter during a huge 
winter storm with high winds.  My only alternative on these two bands 
was a ground-mounted Hustler 6BTV with twenty 25-foot radials.
I worked 9U4U on 80m with a couple of calls, snagged TX5K on 30m RTTY 
and made it through a pileup to QSO Nodir EY8MM a couple of evenings ago.

Sometimes the best counter to a particular claim is evidence.
