[QCWA] Q-Signals

My gosh Jeff, "OK on CW and RTTY not on voice - ever!" is awfully final!!!!!
What do you call your contact confirmation card when operating on SSB, FM or
AM?
When I was the comm chief in an ANG Eng Bn back in the '50's-60's I was
taught by the regular USA comm instructors up at Ft Lewis that the use of Z
(or Q - both were hams) codes in voice communications was an option. They
emphasized that there were times when such use was appropriate, particularly
if there was significant interference and the ability to communicate the
message would be enhanced/improved.
Times change and so do traditions and we need to change too. I use the Q
codes (well, a few) often, like 'Yes I will send you a QSL card" vs " Yes I
will send you a postcard confirming our two way contact". If in doing this
and using a few other Q code's on SSB, FM or AM I am offending someone I'd
like to offer my sincere apologies up front (cause I'm gonna probably
continue).
At my age, (with some 50+ ARRL log books filled - not counting the contest
and Special Event logs) I still send EVERY new call I work a QSL (yes, it is
getting expensive but I'm old and set in my ways and it's cheaper than good
liquor anymore and I still feel the thrill of the card I receive - but alas
at a much lower percentage than years past). Also, my time on Mother Earth
is too short to be frustrated by being a QRP station. I am QRO and for this
post, QRT.
The QCWA is a fine organization and I'm proud to be a late joining member,
but QCWA is sure easier to communicate on SSB than 'Quarter Century Wireless
Association'.
I do realize there are things that are so serious that you can only joke
about them.

This may help one and all. For those of us with a professional
communications background the following link explains the official "Q" code,
The Amateur "Q" code and the "informal Amateur Q Code".
http://www.giangrandi.ch/electronics/radio/qcode/qcodefull.html
Fellow ex-military ops know the "Z" signals trump the "Q" signals on
official circuits. A partial guide is found at this link
http://www.milspec.ca/radcodes/zcodes.html
Even today the ACP-131 guide is the authority for use of Q and Z signals.
OK on CW and RTTY not on voice - ever!

Another "oldie" was QBS. While technically it means; Ascend (or descend) to
... height above ....
But was typically used as "Wipe the Bird Sh*t off your antenna" within the
amateur community.
