[QCWA] Saving money

Greetings all,

I have enjoyed the many thoughts and ideas coming across on this thread. I
particularly enjoyed Bill Pasternak's insightful comments.

Bill made a powerful point when he said that we can't afford to alienate
anyone. Since we do have a significant number who are PC-challenged (how's
that for a politically-correct term?), we must preserve a paper Journal as
well as encourage electronic acceptance of the Journal for most of us.

Some similar-sized organizations are venturing into this realm of dual
publishing. 10-10 has been doing it for some time. Radio Amateurs of
Canada are going to do so next year. A much smaller group, OOTC, has also
been publishing their Spark Gap Times in paper and PDF.

Our paper Journal is quite fancy compared to these other groups' paper
editions. However, it wasn't always so. I have some older copies of the
QCWA Journal and its predecessor the QCWA News. They were much like the
10-10 News in paper quality. There was no fancy card stock, full-colour
cover as we have now. And, it may not have had as many pages, and the page
thickness may have been thinner, but it got the job done. The membership
was also higher then, I think. Could we save money by returning to
something like this, in conjunction with a PDF option?

Dave.
