Hi Bob,
Thank you very much for your reply. I figured that a copy was sent to each
chapter including the DX ones, and it makes sense that it is to their Secretary.
You have said: "The secretary of every active chapter outside of the USA
receives a copy of the Journal. . . . They can reproduce all or part of it in a
language better suited for their members." Is this actually done? Are we
really asking International chapters to bear the cost of reproducing and
translation of the Journal? And, are they actually doing it? How many
languages is the QCWA Journal being translated into? In fact, are they allowed
to reproduce it as is, i.e. in English?
As far as translation goes, I have found in my travels that most, if not all,
Germans know English. It seems to be part of their education system. Other
countries such as Austria, Belgium & Switzerland may be similar. Therefore, the
necessity of translation is not necessarily there, especially with hams who are
used to English being the almost universal language of radio communication.
However, reproducing (should we read photocopying?) the Journal is a daunting
task to put on any chapter's shoulders. Do we really expect them to do so?
So, as I see it, many more than 65 members would benefit.
That is my imperfect opinion anyway.
As far as Dayton is concerned, I hope I can make it. I would like to greet you
in person, as well as many other QCWA members. But, I never know, from day to
day, what more pressing (read family) demands will be made on my time &
presence. Who said you have more time when you're retired?
Cheers,
Dave.
