Hi Dave,
The secretary of every active chapter outside of the USA receives a copy of
the Journal. That's three (3) chapters in Canada (70, 73 & 151), the
chapter in Germany (106) and the chapter in Switzerland (209). They can
reproduce all or part of it in a language better suited for their members.
That leaves about 65 members (<1%) that don't have access to the Journal
without paying for the high cost of postage. Chuck tells me about 125
Journals are mailed to QTHs outside of North America so some part of that 65
probably receive the Journal.
Calling ourselves International could be problematic as we are incorporated
in the USA.
Hi Norm,
John may not have answered you directly, but the publication committee did
look into the possibilities in the 06/08 time frame. The idea of having the
Journal on-line has been discussed on and off for the past 10 years or so.
Doing so opens a whole realm of potential problems, not the least of which
is, reducing the number of Journals printed does not necessarily reduce
production or mailing costs. (as mentioned by Jeff)
Hi Jeff,
We print over 7,000 Journals so we have extra copies to include in Hamfest
Packages and to give to new members.
Hi Steve,
>IF only our national leaders will consider it and then ACT on it in a
>positive manner.
Your national leaders consider every recommendation that comes in. If it's
acted on in a positive manner depends on your point of view.
You contend there are less and less hams to recruit. The number of licenses
issued in the last few years does not support this position.
About the 40 year old snubbed Ham. Do you really think he'll feel less
snubbed if he only has to wait 10 years? Without the 25 year requirement,
there would be no more Quarter Century, just a Wireless Association and that
would make QCWA just another radio club. I have no interest in belonging to
just another radio club. Many current members have told me they would not
renew their memberships if this comes to pass.
For those that may not know, this 25 year issue has been raised multiple
times to past boards and has been rejected by all of them. My position is:
I will not waste this board's time by addressing an issue that has
repeatedly been rejected.
So, there you have it, your suggestion has been acted on by a national
leader. It's your choice to determine if that action is positive or
negative.
Only 8 days left until Dayton, CU there!
