I have been reading ALL the comments on this "hot" topic. It appears that
there on both pro's and con's, but let's first look at what Q.C.W.A. really
is and what it stands for.
I am a life member of QCWA. As I sent in my request for membership on
December 30 to take effect on January 1, I was most honored that I had reach
that point in my life AND in Amateur Radio, that I could apply to be a
member. My husband had been a member for many years. I waited for that
honor as did our Daughter who now is also a QCWA member at age 38.
Having an "associate" membership is not a bad idea, but how would you
incorporate them into the membership of Quarter Century Wireless
Association? The title of the Organization alone states who and what we
are. As with other organizations who have members that wish to participate
but don't meet the minimum requirements, they have an ad hoc committee or
membership calling themselves the "Friends of -------". Might this be the
way we could include people who want to be part of us, but have not been in
amateur radio for 25 years?
Thanks for listening.

Well folks, it’s all down to “boys and girls for bucks.”
I proposed over two years ago to sponsor and “associate chapter” and we as
“Mentors” or “Elmers” would begin to create a pool or resource of future
QCWA members for the next generation. But, all H#$L broke out!! Members
were going to quit the Chapter and just become members at large. They
wanted nothing to do with the idea. So now someone else has come up with
the idea, and the ball in their court.
Why not utilize the concept: the time you were a CB’er, or had a relative
that was CB’er or a ham; or if you knew a CB’er or ham; or maybe you were a
short wave listener at one time? Maybe you were a commercial op in the
military or in the private service? Could we count your intentions if you
were a Boy or Girl Scout? Are we going to water down the entry requirements
to QCWA to the point that a brand new “extra light ham,” who cannot put
batteries in a flash light, but has a Visa Gold Card, is eligible for
membership?
Sorry Gang, QCWA means 25 years – and no less! I truly believe we should
create, implement, and allow for an “Associate Membership” for all of the
family members and those Hams as a future resource. This would be a good
marketing tool as well, but to lessen the entry requirements – no way!!!
