Steve,
What would you propose to call it?
OYWA - One Year Wireless Association?
Obviously, "QC" would not apply anymore!
There are far too many people who take a HUGE amount of
pride in having been in amateur radio long enough to know
what it really is all about!
It is not about the new ham looking for 2M Echolink....
It is not about "memorizing" answers to a test to advance
one's operating privileges.....
It IS about a group of operators who have been around long
enough to be able to SHARE in that common bond,
not just being an Amateur Radio Operator.
What QCWA has lost, is the proactiveness/willingness to
MENTOR and Elmer new hams. You mentioned "old stick in the
muds"....
YOU SIR are 100% correct. Not as a whole, but as a large
cross section of QCWA. Old hams and new hams, for the most
part, have little in common other than "communicating".
The gentlemen are getting fewer in number, and those who
attempt to operate and conduct themselves in a proper
manner, are FAR out numbered by those who just do not give a
damn!
There are those in our ranks as well whose sole purpose is
to perpetuate QCWA amongst those who will "do business as
usual" and not attempt to spark "life" into an otherwise
dead society of "operators".... QCWA offices have
seemingly become an ego feeding mechanism for some.... and
that is a sad state of affairs!
When business is being conducted via email at a subterranean
level in the interest of a few and not for the good of the
group...and the President's "input/opinions" hold as much
water as a screen door......well....that is a sign that a
train has come off the track and a 'crash' is imminent! And
I fear it is coming quicker than expected!
In MY opinion - Quarter Century Wireless Association needs
to stay "Quarter Century".... and if it's membership
declines a little each year....then I'll be an optimist and
consider it a more elite group!
73 and Great Contesting/DXing...

"Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to
make his life
worthwhile can respond with a good deal of pride and
satisfaction, 'I served
in the United States Navy'."
President John F. Kennedy
A man who may have been a Democrat, but at least started out
correctly as a NAVY man!
