Thanks, Jim: QCWA should file petitions and comments on rule making items that affect our ability to enhance friendship and cooperation among amateur operators who were first licensed at least 25 years ago. Our External Relations Standing Committee takes the initiatiative on this.
The last comment that QCWA filed with the FCC was in support of opening the 60-meter band to our amateur service. Then a Director, I drafted and filed comments for the Committee. We all felt that a new HF band was desired by every ham. Wrong! It brought down a firestorm of protests from our members.
The last petition that QCWA filed was for amateur operators to be allowed to name the club that could obtain their call sign when they become deceased. Currently, only our relatives can do this. In my case, that is 26 people! Again, I drafted and filed the petition for the Committee. The League opposed our petition. The FCC, however, saw the logic and included it in a Notice of Proposed Rule Making. Again, the League opposed it. The QCWA decided not to file in support, so I did so under my own name. We are currently awaiting the FCC decision. I think it has a good chance.
