Joe and all you others
I was in Monmouth a long time ahead of you fellows. One of the hams I
knew then said he didn't copy code and landed in repair. To continue my
saga. I got sent back to Camp Crowder to what they called the unit
training center. Only one guy in the company was a qualified fixed
station op. Back to school for all of us. Crowder had what was then
another large signal school. If I had become a fixed station op the TO
called for some high ratings. I might have become a Master Sgt. I managed
to get out of school as a radio op high speed. That meant mobile
operation. Had some friends on the practice circuit between Canp Koler in
Cal , Camp Crowder and Monnmouth. Did that for a while then the batallion
broken up as they could not get operators. No one could touch type.. Got
sucked int two weeks in a NONCOM school run by a couple of West Point
Grads. Then one day I was sent to this Motor Messenger Company and off I
went Europe, no more radio for me. It was bad, I was classified combat
and never saw any action. Lot more funny stories to tell someother time
