Just to add to the mayhem on QCWA tenure.  I just got my 70 year
gold certificate few months back. I am not only proud of that, but
also have a  60 year certificate of concinuous MARS service
(which also credited me with AARS years prior to WW2.)
Of course during WW2 all ham activity was halted (includeing AARS).
Ham equipment was sometimes confiscated or donated to the Signal
Corps for the duration of the WAR.
Ref AARS, it was started by a Signal Corps active duty Captain
in 1926.  He recognized that there were thousands of hams with their
own radio equipment and asked for volunteers to join the AARS
(Army Amateur Radio System).   He got plenty of takers.  In fact
up to about 7 years ago we still had two ex AARS members that
anteceded me by about 10 years going back to 1931 or thereabouts.
MARS itself was'nt created till 1950 and involved all branches
of the MILITARY services membership.  MCMARS, ARMYMARS, AFMARS.
