A few notes about the Marine Division that was stationed on Maui
in 1940. Those guys were mostly all from Indiana and surrounging
States. So what did they do, the named one of the Streets in
their area "Kokomo St". I actually been to Maui many times
in the 70's and 80's, and that street sign is still there.
Since I was born in Kokomo, Indiana I was shocked. I querried
many Hawaiians as to whether that was a name like that in their
language and they said no way!! Sice I also moonlighted
with local music players here paying upright bass, at times
people in the audience would ask me are you a local boy.
My answer was I am a Maui boy from Kokomo. They baught it
and I almost died laughing yet the believed me because they
all knew about "Kokomo" st in Maui.
