The autographed picture of Jesus Christ were actually photos of a Mexican
official whose name contained "Jesus Christ" in his full name.
I can't remember all of it, but Wofman hawked a formula that was claimed to
cure "its, fits, s****, and floppy t***. I have a cousin that could repeat
almost all of that spiel. Wolfman served a brief stint at KOMA in Oklahoma
City after the XERF days then moved on to Chicago with WLS. From there he
went to So. Cal.
There is a history of radio website that lists famous DJs and R&R radio
stations that records where some of these people worked including Wolfman
Jack, Charlie Tuna, and others. Sorry I don't have the address, for I am
sure some of you would enjoy it.
I worked briefly for KOMA in the sales department in 1967-68 time frame
before going to Amarillo, TX to work for KIXZ. When at KOMA, I recall the
following people, Dale Webah, Don McGregor and Buddy King, Charlie Tuna had
just departed and Wolfman was there in the early 60s. Fun days for me and I
still have my Official KOMA Staff Car plate that we displayed on the front
bumper of our cars.
KOMA's 50 KW transmitter was a Western Electric but I don't recall the model
number. It was water cooled with the water tank in the basement under the
transmitter. One of the duties of the night DJs was to keep the tank topped
off. The entire thing was built into a cage made of hurricane fence
surrounding it on all sides and top. I could go on about RFI problems when
they started building houses within 1/4 mile of the towers and the Schafer
automation system, but that would make the story too long.
