October 31, 2004: Marine Corps Marathon is run; local hams provide
communications support

 It was a beautiful autumn day for some 18,000 participants, plus their
families and friends, and plus those providing the infrastructure that makes
this large event possible. The latter included many dungareed Marines, Navy
medical personnel, police officers and fire department personnel from
Arlington County, Alexandria, and the District of Columbia, and around 130
amateur radio operators who volunteered their time and equipment...
