Hi Paul.
Can not help you out on your  question re linear batteries despite  being
a retired ellectronic engineer (now quite obsolete by present standards).
Worked for RCA ,starting in 1942, retiring in1981. What piqued my
interest was your last name of Walcott- That is my first name, and do not
recall ever runnng into any one with it for a last name. 

My Walcott liniege goes back to the early settlers in the 1600s in the
Boston areas, Concord and  Lexington. Would be interested in  knowing if
we could have the same roots. There are Quite a few Wolcotts around-
especially in the Conn. area.
