Bob,
I converted newsletters into .pdf format for a few years. 2 pages each week.
It is not very difficult. If the Journal is in a common file format, it can
probably be done with only a few keystrokes or mouse clicks. If one needs to
scan it from the printed copy, it adds the scanning and importation steps.
A number of organizations I am familiar with including my local radio club
and ARES group distribute monthly newsletters and bulletins and the
membership roster in .pdf format as an email attachment. Members are
encouraged to subscribe for the service. It saves printing and mailing
costs. Those who cannot or choose not to get the .pdf file, still get the
printed versions. An incentive offered by the club is earlier receipt than
the printed copy.
A separate e-mail address list would be needed for distribution.
Some e-mail services do not allow large attachments. It might therefore be
necessary to publish an issue in several files to accommodate members who
use those services (usually the free ones).
Maybe this would be an alternative to posting on the website.
