[Qcwa] Know Code

Hi All,

Wake up and smell the roses!

Our society has changed and as Amateur Radio is just a microcosm of that
society, we have changed also. Read the newspapers, news magazines, and
watch TV. You see, read, and hear over and over how rudeness has become a
way of life in the USA. Men wearing hats in restaurants, cell phones and
pagers going off in concerts, one-finger salutes by drivers and pedestrians
alike, and on and on. And profanity - well, I wont get into that.

We have a repeater in Southern California that makes 75 meters sound like a
church social. I guess they let the foul mouths hang out there knowing that
if they shut them down they would just pollute other repeaters

Although I for one would like code to remain as a requirement that's just
because that as a retired career military type I like tradition.
But......if it goes away, I think we'll continue to survive as Hams.

I grew up repairing my own bicycle, car, and whatever else I could take
apart and put back together. My son grew up not knowing how to do any of
those things saying: "Hey, I don't want to spend my Sundays fixing my car,
I'd rather be playing golf. I'll pay someone to do it." I built electronic
stuff from junked radios and Heathket and Allied Radio catalogs. But
today........with my antique eyesight there is no way I am going to open up
my FT1000 to attempt repairs. UPS whisks it off to the shop and it's back in
a couple of weeks.

Soooooooooo. Society has changed whether we like it or not. CW will survive
on its own merits or it wont. My XYL passed the code and is a General. Does
she ever use it. NO! Will she ever? I doubt it. So what?

OBTW, I have 320 DXCC entities confirmed on CW.
