After much thought I decided to call it quits with ham radio after 37 years.
Reasons are many but mostly I am sick and tired of all the peeing and
moaning, everytime someone starts a topic some smartass has got to chime in
with his idiot liberal logic. Check the forums and the bands arguing and
lids run rampart. Call me old and don't want to change with the times but
when I was first licensed that was a accomplishment to be proud of and
working toward extra was like getting ready to scale the worlds largest
mountain it was tough going but the rewards and sense of accomplishment were
well worth it. Now with the total dumbing down of ham radio, You run into
extra class ops who don't know jack about building a simple dipole or wiring
up a plug for that latest store bought toy. If any of you guys think that
last statement is wrong you got your head stuck in the sand. Keeping the
code, well at this point I really don't care one way or the other but again
that CW was the magic that attracted me to ham radio years ago, without it
and the further dumbing down of radio we surely are destined to become just
another CB band. I know I am not the only one calling it quits the last
couple of weeks I have seen several ads of hams selling out and calling it
quits. So now I quietly depart and hope all you other guys and gals can pull
this thing back together maybe it can become a fraternity again.
