[Qcwa] Various repairs (Something OTHER than the code/no-code debate)

Here's a few items I've had to deal with over the years. You don't have to
answer publicly, just yourself. "What would I have done?" Troubleshoot
and repair it, send it in and have it repaired or sell it "as is" and
buy some
thing else to replace it.

One of the oil filled caps in my BC-453 shorted out and took out a
screen dropping resistor.

The trimmer caps in the phase locked loops in the IC-761 absorbed
enough moisture to kill the oscillator. They were replaced.

A Kenwood TR-7950 All mode two meter transceiver had an
inferior PIN diode in the front end for RX/TX switching allowing it
to mix with TV channel 2 carrier and KBIG FM putting music on
top of the output of a packet repeater when used with a ringo
ranger roof mounted antenna.

The squelch pot on an Icom IC-37 went open and needed replacing.

The display quit working on a Kenwood TM-721 dual bander
so it got replaced with a new one. (I'm on the 3rd Lithium memory
backup cell, and it needs a 4th.)

The AC "phase" capacitor died of old age on a CDR rotor control.

I have spent a lot of money over the years making sure that every
piece of equipment I own has complete documentation. Not just
the operators manual, but the service manual *and* the service
bulletins from the manufacturer when available.

Over the past 35+ years, I've put UHF, TNC, BNC, Type-N,
Type-C and several other connectors on cables ranging from
0.085" semi rigid to 3" hard-line. I mention this only because I
very rarely have a connector fail. (Something I'm rather proud
of.) Do you have others do your connectors? Do you buy pre-
made cables? Or do you fight with unreliable connections?

Just a few things to think about.
