Wonderful website! I especially enjoyed finding old amateurs that I have known
in the past listed in your rolls. I might make one suggestion, though. Proof of
being licensed. What would qualify as proof? I doubt seriously that I could ever
find my expired novice license from 1958-59 (KN4OFH) when I lived in Peach
County, Ga (Byron, GA). I would assume that the callsign appears in the 1959
callbook. I am interested in becoming a member.

Hey! Wait a minute. When I was a Novice in 1961, I was required by the FCC to send in my copy of my Novice License when I
upgraded to General class. Assuming the FCC had the same requirements with everyone else, how could we provide proof of our
original Novice License if we didn't have access to it?

Furthermore, I can remember the FCC making the same requirements
when I renewed my General class license. So I don't have access to
those earlier licenses, either.

Sincerely,

Alvah, K1TMA

This is an entry fron the QCWA Guest Book.

I've checked on-line call books for KN4OFH and K4OFH and found nothing. I also
check at 411.com and didn't find anything there either.

Good Luck!

Norm,
My God were they out of trucks, and the Marines had one helluva
job over there I must admit. Probably it was the terrain and
they had to make do with what they had. One of my Childhood
friends Clem Theed was flying cover out there during that island
hopping campaign. Fighter pilot not sure which plane he flew,
but he was lost in action during that messy operation. Years
later 1950 I was asked to be a pallbearer for his funeral
(in absentia) held in Miami, Fl and was honored to be one
of them!

In the last 1960(winter) issue of the call book,
There is no OFH suffix in call area 4, just K4OFG & K4OFI,
so I assume that KN4OFH, let the call lapse by not upgrading,
(novice calls (KN's) were one year licenses(non renewable) in 1958/9,
,if you upgraded during that year's time, you were issued a new
call sign without the N (i/e KN4OFH became K4OFH.
If all else fails go to every hamfest/ham estate sale you hear about,
and you might find the callbook you need.
What you are looking for is a book 8&1/2" by 12"(yep 12") 1" thick,
CALLBOOK in big letters on the cover over a "flying horse".
What is your current callsign?
Good Luck, 73 de ken N9NBC ex KN5CKM

Congratulations on the new job Chuck.
I can't speak for the others, but I'll make it a point not to give you

Wow. I just found out that it's perfectly OK to use the F-word on broadcast
television, radio, and amateur radio too. It's been authorized by the FCC,
as long as you are not referring to a sexual act.

I'd suggest you do the following:

1. Read the FCC decision in txt, html, doc, or pdf format.
   http://www.fcc.gov/eb/Orders/2003/DA-03-3045A1.html

2. Write to your congressman and tell him how you feel about the airwaves
being treated in this manner.

I'm no prude and have been known to use some "colorful" language in the
proper company and circumstances. This has nothing to do with "free speech"
it's got to do with common decency and respect. At least that's the way I
see it.

Let me say it again... wow.

73,

Mark W1EOF
