Joe......different strokes for different folks..
As you remember I was a high speed operator at WAR 41/42.....when I left in
the Fall of 42 WAR was already in the throes of a conversion to high speed
radiotype circuitry. It was not long before they had no CW circuits left.
In the military establishment over 20 years ago all new equipment came minus
a key jack and today there are just a few SSB radiio sets; everything else
is wireless laptops with mobile relay units.
MARS merely followed the military establishment and just did away with their
CW nets......there was no "banning" as such.
If anything, I believe that MARS lost a lot of very good CW operators who
had no interest in going to phone.
Some very old time friends of mine included.
In any event I wish you good luck as State MARS Coordinator; they need more
guys like you.
