I'll second Brother Norms comment with another Amen.

I understand there are a lot of reasons to argue with people these days.

Ham Radio should an oasis away from that. It should be a place where people
of a different race, color, creed, background, experience can come together
and communicate for the common good. Heck in communicating we might come to
find that we like some people we previously didn't think much of. :-)

When I was young, a wise old ham told me that when I got on the air there
were specific topics that should be avoided. Politics, religion, etc. At
first this sounded like restriction of speech (As a young person I was so
ready to start an argument, even if it was ABOUT arguing!). It was explained
to me that there are many, many venues for healthy debate on such topics.
It's just that ham radio is not one of them. Believe it or not, even in
those days of youth I "got it." I never forgot it. Thanks Dad.
