Friends,
I got the following Email from Adolpho Porta, a former shore station
radio officer in Brazil. Perhaps some one can answer his inquiry. His
email address is "Adolpho Porta" <[email protected]>

I would like to know if there is someone who was in San Franciso
around 1944, because in Rio we were requested to record the Armed Forces
Overseas Broadcasting early in March 44, to try to replay these
programs at
the USO club. We had a nice looking dictaphone wax cylinder recording
machine but after a couple of weeks tentatives the results werent
encouraging and it was stopped. The broadcast came from the Fairmont
Hotel
and all my life I longed to see the place myself and this happened in
Aug.
1998, when I visited SFO. It was one of those most exciting days in my
life
believe me.73s FM AP.
