David, don't pay any attention to those comments. I am a life member
before some of these guys ever got their ham license. I am one of the 100
oldest members and got my ticket in 1935. I never joined thinking I was
joining an "elite" organization but just a great fraternal organization.
This was at a time when there were no chapters. I have seen many changes
in ham radio and tests but it is still the same. The exams were no harder
in 1935 than they are today. There was a license manual then too which
explained everything. Only difference was taking the test in front of a
radio inspector. If you missed a question he told you to look it over
again as you had more time. At the code I missed one letter and he asked
me to see if I knew what it was.
