Hi, Gary.

But you ARE providing it online today - just in PDF form (the PDF images
save remotely through the browser very easily). Regardless the form,
why not just password protect the viewing and/or download service so as
not to deny it to the membership ? It works for thousands of other
companies and organizations.

As for dBaseIV ... you only have to address that once - and only at the
HQ server. And you might find Access no more useful than the easier to
manage and more useful to all, Excel. But even if you needed Access at
the backend, exporting/importing between the Access backend and Excel
frontend is a piece of cake. And are there still folks who WANT to hold
onto dBaseIV when far more contemporary/powerful alternatives are
readily available ?

????

Subject: online database?

Hi Bob,

I am replying to your comments about having the database on line. I
see
from further comments that Jim Walsh has replied to your comments also.
One of the biggest concerns about having an on line database is the use
that can (has been) made of it to generate mass mailing solicitations.
After some concerns that were expressed by members in the past the QCWA
Board of Directors decided not to make the database generally available
on
request.

I agree with you that the more modern software would be easier to
manipulate, but getting the expertise to get it done (and use it) is a
major problem. I have experimented with importing it into Access and
found
that it can be done, but the learning curve is still there for the
people
that are already familiar with dBase IV.
