Hi, Joe.
If you are referring to my message, none of it had to do with the
reflector - we were discussing QCWA's website services (HTML et al) and
the image-maker/database-structures behind them. IBM has nothing to do
with it (except perhaps - but irrelevant - that the vast majority of us
do run Wintel platforms that are now very distant derivatives of the old
IBM model).
Side-comment ... it seems the anti-IBM sentiments still haven't died -
yet IBM currently produces more open/Linux servers than any other
manufacturer ! Go figure.
By the way, there is now "Open Office" and it has become VERY POPULAR on
the LINUX platforms - which should take care of downloads/manipulations
for everyone but the Macs, and they can run the special version of
Office made for them. (or maybe X can even handle Open Office?) This
all makes it even more worthwhile to abandon the current architecture.

These are of a proprietary nature and assume that all users on the
reflector are using IBM's and their associated proprietary character
sets, such as WORD, BIG5, EXCEl ETC. Many of us are not using IBM
systems
and therefore using anything other than STANDARD ASCII within the
text body would defeat the usefullness of the reflector.
Some of use LINUX, UNIX, DEC, MACS and various other systems.
