[Qcwa] QCWA STANDARDS AND MEMBERSHIP

Amen to the dumbing down, especially of the FAA. I worked for a time as an
Aircraft Safety Inspector and can report first hand that not only the
controlers are inadequate but that most of the safety inspectors are
marginal at best. I WON'T fly either, in any size airplane and I quit the
FAA because of the inqdequacies of the training and assignments.

Tradition is something that has been under attack for many years and the
attackers are winning. It is not only in "dumbing down" but throwing away
events and standards the "me now, right now" generation has spurned. They
are unable to wait for recognition and stature and want to buy it. Just look
at the bidding process for 1X2 calls. It is a lottery and the people with
the most money wins. I just went through it because I felt that after 45
years as a ham I wanted a 1X2 but had to compete with people who have less
than 5 years experience , not that they are stupid, insensitive or
unqualified but they don't hold tradition in prespective.

While some have the technical expertise to do anything anyone else can do,
they lack a level of emotional maturity that patience bestows on an older
person. That, to me, is part of the reason for the existance of QCWA.
Tolerance is a fine thing but patience is just as important, for it teaches
tolerance and patience of views and actions while not modifying just for the
sake of change to admit greater numbers.

Welcome to all who want to glorify and expand QCWA while upholding minimum
standards. If you don't like the standards, don't try to change them just
because you don't like them, don't qualify or want to be "all inclusive".
Learn from others the value of the traditions and if they are inappropriate,
discuss them in a rational manner and try to build consensus. However if
they have great value, uphold them and don't destroy them just for the sake
of destruction. Listen carefully to those who espouse these "old values",
we might learn something. The answer to QCWA, ARRL and ham radio's problem
lies in recruiting. All of those who have passed the torch should be active
in recruiting and teaching not just sitting about running our mouths.

Let's build things and involve the younger generation. What dividends it
can pay.
