Silent Key

Leo Gibbs, W8BHT, became a Silent Key last Thursday, May 2nd, 2002.  He was 
91 years old. His wife of 52 years preceded him in death. He is survived by 
two sons, their wives, five grandchildren, one great grand daughter and by 
two brothers.  He got his ham license at age 19 and had been a ham for more 
than 70 years and we were about to hand him his 70-year diploma.  He made 
radio, in particular vacuum tubes his life's work.  His contributions 
included work on tubes used in early radar. He kept a, at the time of WWII, 
highly secret radar oscillator tube, the VT 158, as a keepsake. This tube 
was capable of 200 kW pulses in the UHF range. Leo was a member of the 
Antique Wireless Association, the Old Timers Club, the Quarter Century 
Wireless Association and the Indiana Radio Historical Society.  Friends may 
call at the Tobias Funeral Home on 5471 Far Hills Ave at Rahn Rd. on 
Tuesday, 7 May at 10:15 AM.  There will be Prayers at the Funeral home 
Chapel at 11:15 and the Burial will be, after the Mass at St. Albert the 
Great Church (12 noon), at Calvary Cemetery.
