Norm I wish I had a catalog mind like yours!
I just put the info I had gleaned from a Newspaper article some
time back.   The person who wrote the article was bonafide
loaded with Hawaiian credentials, and he was the one who said
KOKOMO could not be found in any lyric, or Hawn Language source!
So he attributed it to the military somehow planting that name.
Last time I was on Maui about 10 years back I checked to verify
the street sign is still there and sure enuff it still is.
And your right also MAKAWAO is where they hold the cow town
rodeos etc I think once each year.  When I was still playing
music out here back before 84, I often was asked if I was
from Hawaii, and of Course I said yep I am a maui boy from
Kokomo!   I got some hilarious responses to that but they
didnt doubt what I said.  Often they thought I was portugueese
so just left them with a wink!  73's
