I will attempt to answer some of the questions most recently asked on this
reflector. I would have normally signed the comments that the QCWA Board
of Directors sent to the FCC. As I do not know how to file comments with
the FCC electronically, I asked John, W3BE to do so for me. I must also
admit that I do not know how to place the filing material on the reflector
with out re-typing 6 pages of text. I use Eudora Pro for email service
here and have attempted several times to place a text file in the body of
the message. No success in making that work as yet.
I would think that most hams would approve any supporting comments to the
FCC in a request to provide more amateur radio bands. There was a limited
time window to provide comments to the FCC in support of this docket. QCWA
has made comments over many years to the FCC.
QCWA is governed by an elected Board of Directors consisting of 10
Directors and 4 Officers. The most recent slate of Board candidates will
assume office September 1, 2002. The election period will close on July
31. All members in good standing should have received a ballot that was
mailed before May 15. That ballot slate was introduced to the membership
in the Spring 2002 QCWA Journal. The incoming President will appoint a
nominating committee in October and will announce the appropriate addresses
for volunteers to apply for Board of Director positions. We have received
very few volunteers in the past. If you would like to participate in the
operation of your Association, please volunteer!
We have frequently been asked why we did not ask the membership for their
input on some of the actions of the Board. It takes two years to complete
an election cycle and we receive about 30% return of the ballot. The cost
of mailing material out for this election is about $2,000. We would have
to allow several months to permit input from the membership in any kind of
mailing. There are less than 300 members (some may not be members as
anyone is welcome on this list) subscribed to the QCWA list reflector. The
QCWA Journal requires two months to prepare and mail from the deadline for
input. The Board of Directors addresses, phone numbers and email addresses
appears on page two of each Journal. I have always asked for and welcomed
any input from the membership concerning comments about QCWA. I have to
report receiving relatively few comments from members. If you have any
suggestions on how to get more membership participation, please let me know.
