Good afternoon to all,
During the past few weeks some fights have broken out on this reflector a=
nd there has been some quality posts about technical subjects. To me, th=
is is a good reflector and I read everything that comes my way. I have a=
couple of things to say that I hope the membership will take as observat=
ions. I assure everyone I am not being critical.
The sad thing about the english language is the many different meanings o=
f words. What one person writes, another reads differently. Another thi=
ng I almost deplore is not being able to see the person who communicates =
on these reflectors. Body language, eye contact and intent play a role o=
n what we understand when we communicate with others. These are not pres=
ent in written form on a reflector. =20
A person who is being jovial when he writes on a subject may be understoo=
d as being mean and degrading to someone, when the intent was to be funny=
. A perfect example of that occurred today when someone asked a poster i=
f he would send explicit stories off reflector. =20
I read that post with humor, but others did not. When subjects are commu=
nicated in written form sometimes the original intent is lost. When that=
happens to me, I try to query the person to determine the actual intent.=
If it was meant to be funny, I laugh with the other fellow. If he/she =
is trying to be mean or impose their standards that I do not agree with o=
n me then I don't communicate with them any more directly.
I hope the humor continues here and I urge everyone to read each post wit=
h a light heartedness. We all belong to a great group who, when ham radi=
o is challenged, will support the hobby and individuals involved. It's a=
great way for me to hear from members that I may never meet or communica=
te with over the air.
Keep up the good work everyone.
