Hello All:
I've just subscribed to the reflector and noticed a
number of postings about WWII. About a year after my
father's passing I gathered all his WWII memorabilia and
posted it on my web site:
http://ka2e.home.att.net/dad
My father, Phil Sturm, was a SGT in the Air Corps, 142
AACS, 1943-1946. He was an RTTY op, a "Trick Chief" as
he called it, in Camp Campbell, KY and Biak Island,
NEI. Since dad wasn't a combat vet, he spoke freely and
frequently about his service so I have many memories to
share with anyone who might have in interest in Biak or
the AACS.
Thirty years ago, when I was practicing for my ticket, I
remember dad talking about the Radio Ops on the island
and their strange language, "Well, I sent him a DUM DUM
DIDDLY DUM DUM."
I've gotten many amazing responses from the site,
including the grandson of one of dad's war buddies, who
is still alive and remembered dad well. I also heard
from the son of Dutch Missionaries who grew up on Biak
and sent superb photos of Biak then and now.
Please enjoy the site (it's entirely non-commercial) and
drop me a line with any comments or info you'd like to
share.
Best 73.
