Yeah they had some weird stuff that went down the pike
back then.   In addition to them inducting Telco Main
Office Switching center types with M/Sgt rates,  they
also had the  "ATC" airtransport command If I remember
correctly.  It flew the Azores route accross  first down
to RIO then accross to the Azores and finally into north
Africa and points beyond.  Those guys (one of which I
knew personally was a former Radio Operator for Panam
Camaguey Cuba who was inducted with the rank of Captain
no less.   He was "pf" to me, but Pete Fernandez rose
rapidly I think it was to Brig General and commanded
all comms during the Berlin Airlift after the war
terminated.

This guy was'nt even a pilot but he was a hot shot
radio operator down in Cuba...
