Hi Jack, (woops thats a nastey intro)
I've seen the slinkys give amazing results for apartment useage,
though not too good for multi-band use even with pruneing the tap
point up on the slinky from the bottom of it. They did a good job
however when used with a "throw out" ground plane you can drape
over the balcony ledge. I also have seen the wire loop idea
around the eaves of the house (4 sides) and then the far side
being brought into a gap of a few inches and a coil inserted there
which is used for balancing. Again optimum for one band only
without a lot of time consumeing effort each time bands were
changed. If all else fails the "flagpole" solution is a very
favorable way to get a good signal out. Build a flagpole out
of an Aluminum mast do desired size and freqcy. Mount it in a
way so its insulated from ground by using a secion of PVC pipe
or whatever. Bury the coax feed line underground again in
PVC pipe, and conceal how you latch it to the bottom of the
Aluminum mast. Use a tuner of course in the shack. Last
but not least put the flag on it now and then so all passersby
can see it is truly a flagpole. Very few Commuity associations
have barred flying the flag that I know of.
