Joe.......in the late 80's I returned to Hawaii for a month long visit.
I played golf with a retired Army type at
Schofield Barracks........he was a true native Hawaiian and told me he came
from "kokomo" on Maui.
I am quite sure you could pick a dozen names of towns or resorts with
Hawaiian sounding names that are not part of the language.
I have forwarded some of this speculation on to the 4th Marine Division
association and am sure they will get a kick out of it.
