After checking around for road conditions, expected temperatures, etc.
With current winds persisting today and overnight, already freezing air
temperatures will begin to dive toward low teens and single digits
approaching dusk. Snow/ice melt water on roads will refreeze quickly, with
conditions favoring formation of black ice. Patches of ice will be found
randomly in areas shaded by trees during the day.
While the big roads are largely satisfactory, secondary and local roads
have not had the brine treatment to get clearance as far along, Some
stretches were driven over before plowed and quarter to half-inch thick ice
frozen to pavement remains in scattered locations.
Slush will freeze tonight.
These conditions are likely to persist Friday, Saturday and possibly into
Sunday.
Therefore, remembering that discretion is the better part of valor, I am
calling off the risk-taking by our intrepid band of rabid contesters,
trying to save their assets for the NAQP.
Those who absolutely MUST have their monthly fix of Manchester's Deluxe
Pizza can still drive over and have a good time, but should expect the
crowd to be down a bit. Do be careful on your wheels if you do.
Thanks to sage assessments from Nate, Dan and WRA, upon whose advice I
blame this missive.
73, Guy K2AV
