Very nice Nate!  Glad to hear you got on.
Strange thing is, I never got your original email, but I did see Ted's email and it didn't appear in my spam folder either.  Maybe an eclipse thing?  ;-D
I got on for almost 2 hours, around the totality time, but not at the full totality.  I went outside to take a peek.  :-)  I made 75 Qs on 20m SSB and had a few nice runs.  I worked some stations in CA, VE, FL and in between.  A lot in the midwest.  Nothing up into New England though.  I had my beam pointing west, so no DX.  It was interesting to hear a lot of QSB.
I noticed it got cooler too and just a little dimmer.  My shed's light is light sensitive and in a shady area and it turned on for a little while.

Very cool, Nate!

It's great you got on, and that they did this contest. I was skeptical, but clearly there was an impact on the ionosphere that was clearly perceptible for ham radio.

As John says, the D layer must have collapsed quickly (as it does) to allow longer skip on lower bands in the middle of the day!

I received a text from Bob McGwire N4HY who was with a government-funded  ionospheric study for VA Tech during the eclipse on the coast of South Carolina - he will hopefully will update us.

He told me he worked a California station from SC using 100 W and a 30' dipole during the eclipse!

Will be interesting to see if that was when the "zone of totality" was in the middle of the country. Wonder if anyone worked from east coast into Africa near the end on the lower bands? That would be awesome.

I was amazed how bright it still was at the maximum eclipse in raleigh, NC (about 94% blockage). I noticed a distinctive temperature drop of several degrees during and after the max outage.
