OK, I stand corrected. I looked at the scores database. Not embarrassed,
just relieved that there were some decent scores in NC and sort of cheapened
the contest for those ahead of me. Apologies. The ambiguous certificate
doesn't say "First Place" Unlimited Low Power. In fact on careful reading it
doesn't say anything. My score was actually 5th in NC for UL behind
W4AAA(KK9A) 247K (GREAT!), N4HXI, W4MY, and W4KAZ which is where I would
expect to be. I just didn't know ARRL handed out "participation"
certificates. Sort of like what we used to do for the 5 year old soccer
players. Don't think this one will go on my wall.
And BTW, I didn't say one could make as many qso's LP as HP. I also didn't
say that a Prius could outrun a Ferrari. To each his own.

Folks, this is downright embarrassing. In the mail today is an envelope from
ARRL with a cover letter that starts, "Congratulations on your winning
effort...."
How can this be? I've already received my NC certificate and Division plaque
for CW. Read a bit further and look at the certificate:
"First Place North Carolina SO Unlimited Low Power PHONE" with Clean Sweep
sticker. I just got on for a while to give the club some points and make an
assisted sweep. Win North Carolina with a score of only 63,744 points??
Where was everyone else? Surely SOULP isn't an orphan category?
Please, PVRC-NC, I don't want another certificate for 2014 for a half-a___d
effort when I know we've got a lot of phone contesters in the club WAY
better than me. Surely someone can provide some competition this year.
Or just get on to give the club some points as I did and maybe you too could
earn some wallpaper!
GO PVRC! I mean let's really go.
73,
Jim, K4QPL
