Subject: PVRC Communications Committee
To: All PVRC Chapter Heads
From: PVRC Board
Dear Nate and Keith -
The PVRC Board has approved the formation of an 'Ad Hoc Committee on
Communications'. By 'communications' we actually don't mean 'radio'
communications! We mean communications channels within and beyond our club
to promote and advertise PVRC.
This committee will be co-chaired by Ethan Miller, K8GU and Ken Low, KE3X.
We are contacting Chapter Heads to source members of this Committee from
across the club.
The purpose of the committee will be to:
1. Review our three existing communication channels (website, newsletter
and private reflector) for effectiveness. How well are they working? How
might they be improved?
2. Investigate social media channels with the goal of a) communicating
across our current members, b) increasing the club's visibility and c)
attracting new members to the club.
3. Develop a marketing strategy for PVRC specific to those social media
channels including:
- what audiences do we want to reach
- what channels are most effective
- balancing outreach with privacy concerns
- scoping administrative workload
4. Recommend specific tools and resources for implementation, with
timeline, cost and resources required
5. Present findings for Board discussion and feedback
6. Implement solutions and support going forward
The duration of this Ad Hoc Committee is unknown. We might run this for
1-3 months, perhaps 12-months or longer. Time frame will likely depend on
the committee's recommendations, what the Board approves, the time frame to
get it done, and the extent to which initial projects lead to future
opportunities.
We are looking for specific experience in the following areas:
- current social media channels
- website design
- technical proficiency in programming
- prior social media implementation in other venues (schools, civic groups,
religious groups, scouts, etc.)
- project management
- legal aspects of social media
Our goal is to build a Communications Team with all these talents. This is
an opportunity to contribute your vision, ideas and time back to PVRC on an
important project that will shape our club's future.
Can you kindly forward this email to the members of your Chapter, and ask
them to email the Co-Chairs directly with indications of interest.
One immediate goal is to identify a new Webmaster for our current PVRC
website, to give Howie N4AF a break after his many years of service to the
club.
Thanks and 73,
Ethan Miller, K8GU
