[PVRCNC] Cable modem RFI

Guys,

Would you believe a cable modem could add 50db of noise over background
on 160M/80M.

Oddly enough I heard it on my beverage which starts 75' from the house.
I couldn't hear it on the inverted L 300' away. Maybe the inverted L is
deaf?

Time Warner tech was out here today and replaced the noisy beastie.

It almost took an act of congress to get past TWC's first line tech
support people. "May I talk to your supervisor" finally worked.

For some reason it was hard for them to understand that "If you unplug
it the noise goes away".

The most enlightening test for the TW tech is taking an AM BC band
radio. Place it next to the modem. Hear the noise? Pull the modem
plug. Noise vanishes.

New modem (ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0) has a built in power supply. It is also
capable of decoding 4 downstream channels simultaneously if you pay the
big bux for that.
