As a new PVRC member, I was wondering how to submit my station for one
of the PVRC teams for the forthcoming NAQP CW Contest.
Any info on that would be appreciated.
By way of introduction, my name is Paul, and I live on a small farm in
southern Wake County, with lots of tall pines, poplars, and oaks.
I became aware of PVRC through W4MY (thanks, Marty!). W4MY/m and I ran
the NCQP in his Mazda pickup this past March, and that was
a blast. I think we ran thru 20 counties, averaging 60+ miles/hr for
the duration. With big pileups at each new county line, that was an
experience
that will be forever etched into my memory...
I've been QRP contesting for many years, but after having been infected
by the guys at PVRC NC East, I d like to widen my contest horizons.
I love CW--I mean, I LOVE IT! Still, I've been know to dust off the mic
and op SSB when the situation warrants.
My antenna farm is in a growing phase, with plans to add phased
verticals for 80M and a top loaded 160M vertical this Fall. Presently, I'm
running a TH6DXX at 72 ft, a phased 2 el 40M wire beam (N/S) at 50 ft, a
160M dipole up 75 ft, and an 80M dipole up 70ft. Modeling
and testing all kinds of wire antennas is another passion.
My rigs are modest--a TT Corsair II, a TT Argonaut II, and several QRP
CW rigs. So yes, I'm a yellow dog QRP'er, but I take
contesting seriously, using the best antennas I can scrounge up, and
trying to put to use all the valuable tips I've been learning from
fellow PVRC members.
73, Paul AA4XX
