And you thought UHF antennas were small and light....
---------------------------------------------------------------------
..... we are working on out WUNC-TV channel 4 transmitter site in
Northern Chatham County. Basically, what we have to do is remove the
analog channel 4 antenna from atop the 1400' tower and replace it with
the new digital antenna and brace weighing 15 tons..... In order to
stay on the air during this period, we must operate on a lower antenna
with reduced power levels to protect the tower crew from the effects of
harmful radiation.
The antenna work is very dangerous and tedious work that is done mostly
by hand while the tower crew suspended from the 1400 foot tower. Our
first priority is the safety of the tower crew.... .We hope to be back
before the end of the summer.......
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess they are concerned about RF exposure. First rule, don't
"microwave" the installers.
