Yes, we are at the seven day warning period. The First Thursday happens
to be May 1st. That means the next PVRC/NC-East meeting is just over a
week away.
Sark your calendars, make plans, leave the country, or let events sweep
you along with the tide. Whatever works.
Hell. You might even enjoy attending.

PVRCNC-East Chapter - March Meeting Notes
April 3rd, 2008, Manchester's, Raleigh, NC, USA.
April brought on a decline from the record levels of attendance of the
past few months. We had our more normal fifteen or so in corpus, with
everyone else either recouperating from arduous Poisson d'Avril efforts,
spring fever, March Madness overload, or maybe even conflicts with their
actual 'real lives'. Whatever the cause, they were slandered in their
abscence, per normal QRM period procedure. The quaffing of 807's was
observed going on un-abated. Our duly chosen fearless leader AA4NC took
it all in stride, and quelled the QRM to get the train running on time.
Thus began April member reports.
Around the Table - Member Reports
N4CW, Bert: Huh? My turn? SSB contest? What's that?
W4KAZ, Keith: Operated WPX SSB for fun. Didn't have all that much....
NT4D, Jay: No radio, too busy watching the basketball tournaments. Jay,
despite operating the occasional contest, is now a self declared DXer.
At least until he gets hit by the urge to contest for DX.
W4TMO, Jim: Jim has declared himself the official N4CW "mooch". The
winds brought by the March Lion croaked Jim's 160-L, and its
resurrection is awaiting the procurement of more suitable rope.
K4CZ, Barry: Barry's only radio activities have revolved around
preparing the evenings RTTY program, and a family multi op effort that
he mostly observed from afar, as KI4GUO and KI4ZWQ were having fun
despite the relatively poor propagation during WPX SSB.
KI4GUO & KI4ZWQ, Jordan and Jeanne: The ladies operated as KI4GUO, and
aquired a very nice 700+ QSO total for their efforts. Jeanne apparently
had the contest bug hit sometimes during a run, and now understands the
appeal of the pileup. Jordan also prepared, moderated and scored the
evenings' Paper Contest and wisely ignored all of the badgering being
dished by N4XD.
K4QLP, Jim: Jim has been preoccupied with the same basketball tourney
affliction that beset NT4D, and has also been distracted by a backlog of
work on the house. He's run into a port snag with the SO2R box, which
had not been resolved by the time of the meeting.
KE4GY, Frank: Frank operated WPX SSB on 15m again, noting sagely that
"15 meters sure sucks right now", and that he had worked the same repeat
offenders again. We may be hearing Frank fronm the DX side of the action
if he is able to mooch a spot during an upcoming visit to his XYL's
family in Brazil.
N4XD, Ron: Ron's sole purpose in attending was to "harass Jordan".
Acting as local distributor and defacto toroidal emissary, he did also
tote along a boxload of ferrites from the group order put together by
Eric, W3DQ. But he reported "no contesting lately".
N4GU, Mike: Mike was still in Poisson d'Avril mode, and came in sporting
his Kazak expedition jersey, where he operated with Borat, "UP5LID".
Beyond that there was no contesting activity to report, but he had
managed to bag the VP6 and Clipperton expeditions. The March Lion also
ate antennas at N4GU, taking a piece of Mikes OCF dipole. He also had a
broken rotor, which had already been repaired. He's been having fun with
SDR, altough its been at work, not at home.
N4TL, Tom: Tom got in a couple hundred QSO's in WPX SSB
K4CIA, Bill: Bill, after much effort, bagged 9M2AX on 160m. He did DXCC
card checking at the Charlotte hamfest, and was also planning to provide
that service at the Raleigh hamfest.
AA4NC, Will: Will operated the NC QSO Party, and comment on enjoying the
short format. He also operated WPX SSB 'a bit'. Will has spent an
enormous amount of time keying in old paper logs(using DXLAB) for
eventual upload to LOTW.
K9EZ, Kent: Kent has been MIA for a while, mostly due to his work
schedule and the long ride to the meeting QTH. On a vacation, he dropped
by WYFR in Florida, and was given a tour of their Rhombic farm, and
their 14 100KW xmitters. (Yup - FourTeen 100kw xmitters) Kent has photos
poted at: http://picasaweb.google.com/kwinrich/WYFR Kent may also have
a trip to YA or YI land in his near future.
Paper Contest: The Paper Contest was conducted by guest questioner
KI4GUO. Jordan acquitted herself admirably, causing much head
scratching, and bewildered looks all around the assembled crew.
Program:K4CZ made a presentation on RTTY contesting for the evening's
program. There was a general discussion on various aspects of RTTY
operating as it relates to contesting.
Next meeting of the NC-East chapter is May 1st.
